Summary on Grant Application Form
High performance computing resources, a PDRA, and technical support, are requested for a consortium of users working on the hydrodynamics of complex fluids. The consortium includes all currently active members of the E7 Colloid Hydrodynamics and is based around the Soft Condensed Matter Network. Several members have played leading roles in the development, under E7, of new algorithmic methodologies, including DPD, lattice Boltzmaunl, and hydrodynamic lattice gas methods; these will be developed further (with PDRA support), and, alongside other methods, be used to investigate some or all of the following science areas: mesophase formation in amphiphiles, amphiphiles in confined geometries, dissolution and detergency, wetting and interfacial dynamics (including curvature effects), emulsification, binary fluids in porous media, poroelastic flows, viscoelastic continua in complex geometries, polymer dynamics, colloidal suspensions and liquid crystal flows.
