Summary on Grant Application Form
It has been shown that the TDD underlay concept can provide additional capacity in a CDMA system. We will apply the ULTRA air interface parameters to the TDD Underlay system and assess the potential performance benefits. The TD-CDMA (TDD) system can access bandwidth allocated for W-CDMA (FDD) operation to be increased and enables redundant FDD up-link capacity to be developed to access the performance under a variety of realistic scenarios. We take into account the development of dynamic channel allocation algorithms and the alternative methods to provide future capacity and asymmetry enhancements for IMT-2000 systems. We conclude the study by looking at the future system developments and the performance at higher carrier frequencies where the underlay system is expected to perform even better. In parallel with this work a PhD student will look at wider system issues and interactions, and also the potential of software radio in this context
