Summary on Grant Application Form |
ROPA - The definition of paramagnetic contrast agents whose relaxivity is short-lived, allowing their use in arterial imaging. The feasibility of devising Eu(II) complexes, which are oxidised quickly in blood, will be assessed by electrochemical, optical and relaxivity measurements. In addition, hydrolytically sensitive conjugates will be sought, allowing the rapid conversion of high-relaxivity agent to a lower molecular weight complex of low relaxivity. Finally, controlled substitution of two bound water molecules by hydrogencarbonate, in vivo, (the rate modulated by the charge and steric bulk of the complex) will be studied as another means of quickly lowering the relaxivity of the gadolinium complex.
