Summary on Grant Application Form |
Transition metal mediated catalytic processes is hailed as the new way forward in organic synthesis as it allows transformation to occur at milder conditions at higher selectivity, thus economising the overall process. This work aims to develop more efficient systems by the design of a new type of phosphorus-nitrogen-phosphorus (PNP) containing ligands for catalysis. Preliminary work demonstrated that their 'hemilabile' behaviour could be exploited to improve the performance of existing catalytic processes. This proposal seeks to extend the work by the synthesis of a new generation of PNP ligands, especially those containing different phosphorus donors. The ligands will then be tested against conventional ligands in a number of transition metal mediated catalytic processes.
