Summary on Grant Application Form |
A recent analytical theory which encompasses recovery, recrystallization and grain growth in subgrain-forming materials will be used as the core of a first generation model to predict the recrystallization kinetics, grain size and texture of metals deformed at ambient and elevated temperatures. The proposed model, which predicts microstructural evolution from first principles, is distinctly different from existing models and, when fully developed should have more predictive power.Versions of the model which alloy for particle-stimulated nucleation of recrystallization and concurrent hot deformation and annealing will be formulated. The detailed parameters of the deformed microstructure which are necessary inputs to the model will be obtained by the newly developed method of high resolution electron backscattered diffraction. The models will be tested against experimental results obtained on aluminium alloys.
