Summary on Grant Application Form
Our aim is to develop efficient synthetic methods for the covalent linkage of redox-active organic groups (based on tetrathiafulvalence) to metallo-phthalocyanines. These materials will be tailored with the objective of obtaining novel photoinduced charge-transfer properties and supramolecularly-ordered structures. We will aim to construct a photo-redox switch in which the fluorescence fo the Pc moiety can be turned on or off by the redox state of the TTF unit(s). Time-resolved spectroscopic techniques will be used to study the mechanisms and kinetics of photoinduced charge-transfer processes in these materials. Their potential as active components in near-IR detectors and liquid crystal devices will be explored through our contacts with DERA.
