Summary on Grant Application Form |
The merging of computing, communication and media technologies has made the Internet an essential part of our infrastructure. Organisations as well as individuals are increasingly using the Internet and the Web for conducting their activities. These rapid developments have created an acute skill shortage of designers of Internet Applications, an area where a broad range of skills are necessary. The proposed MSc course, intended for graduates with a first degree in computing science or mature candidates with relevant industrial experience, addresses this skill shortage. In order to keep abreast of a fast moving field, the traditional taught format of lecture based modules will be supplemented by seminar based guided reading modules covering recent developments. A strong feature of the proposed MSc is the emphasis on practical system design work: students will undertake group work as well as individual systems project work lasting half a year. It is expected that more than half of the total number of students will be carrying out their systems projects within industrial R&D labs.
