Summary on Grant Application Form
In 1999, we discovered a novel rearrangement of a Swern oxidation intermediate, which generated tryptophan derivatives substituted by the MeSCH2 group at the C-4 position, in low yield (ca 30%).In the proposed research, we aim to:a) Optimise the reaction, and study its scope/limitationsb) Explore how the C-4 MeSCH2 group can be derivatised.c) Complete the total synthesis of one important indole alkaloid -Clavicipitic Acid, Agroclavine or Indolactam V-the choice depending on the results from phases a) nad b).
