Summary on Grant Application Form
Living in a Materials World aims to convey the excitement of ISIS science to A-level school students and their teachers, opening up new areas of interest, and showing the relevance of our work to school studies and everyday materials. We will organise an ISIS Science Day for Teachers that will enable science teachers to meet with ISIS scientists in an informal atmosphere to find out through presentations and discussions about contemporary research. It is our hope that through this meeting of professionals at opposite ends of the education spectrum, we will be able to help today's teachers to inspire tomorrow's scientists! An interactive CD-ROM about the ISIS Facility and the science that takes place here will also be developed. The CD-ROM will offer useful resources to teachers and A-level ability students, providing a link between the classroom and the application of scientific knowledge in research. It will offer curriculum enrichment appropriate to the new content, format and teaching methods currently being adopted within A-level science teaching. Opportunities to discuss and influence the CD-ROM content will be an integral part of the Teacher's Day and during the subsequent development process, since input from the teachers is crucial for the CD-ROMs success and relevance to school requirements.
