Summary on Grant Application Form |
Ring closing protocols such as alkene metathesis, biaryl coupling and Glazer coupling will be used to roge a macrocyclic ligand around a central metal oxide core. The size of the macrocycle produced around the resultant encapsulated metal oxide will be predetermined both by the coordination geometry of the central metal selected and by ancillary functionality of the alkoxide ligands incorporated. The tunable mechanical properties of the novel hybrid organic-inorganic materials produced will be studied as will the reactivity and molecular recognition properties of the highly functionalised macrocyclic ligands produced on liberation of the metal template.
