Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the proposed research is to investigate a novel technique, based on image analysis technology, to analyse and characterise motor-perceptual functioning as a means of establishing an effective and efficient procedure for the assessment and monitoring of children with developmental dyspraxia. The principal goal is to investigate an automated testing procedure which specifically seeks a quantifiable measure of performance in relation to established figure copying tasks, and which offers new insights and understanding of the nature and treatment of dyspraxia. A key area is to extract and utilise dynamic aspects of performance, both individual parametric measures and execution strategies/constructional patterns to enhance and refine the assessment of dysfunction and its treatment. This analysis also has implications of a generic nature for an enhanced understanding of techniques applicable to handwriting analysis.
