Summary on Grant Application Form |
Permeable Reactive Barrier technology is relatively new to the United Kingdom. It has wide application in the treatment of contaminated groundwater. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the technology and ongoing research in the field. Very little of this technology has thus been applied. There is thus a need to establish a body for the dissemination of information about this technology. The proposed Permeable Reactive Barrier Network (PRB-Net) will bring together interested parties from academia, industry, consulting, governmental and regulatory bodies and the private sector to advance permeable reactive barrier technology within the United Kingdom. This will be done through the format of a series of workshops and a conference. A range of topics relating to PRB technology will be explored at these workshops, with experts in the field participating. Use will also be made of the internet and an interactive web page to disseminate information relating to this technology. This network will be of benefit to people working in the contaminated groundwater field, authorities, academia and industry. It will lead to the establishment of links between inter-disciplinary groups and nurture an atmosphere in which productive research and technology transfer can take place.
