Summary on Grant Application Form |
A new network is proposed which will consist of scientists with a common interest in the application of scanning probe & other techniques to the study of biologically important problems at the nanoscale. The primary aim of the network is to encourage communication between members with different research backgrounds & expertise. Initial membership will include theoreticians, physicists, surface scientists, chemists & biologists. Eventually, it will encompass a more diverse scientific membership and also include instrument manufacturers and other end users. Development of the network will ensure a wide membership and hence its functioning in the long term. A major objective of the network is to publicise the availability of high technology techniques and their applicability to investigation of biological processes at the nanoscale. This will be achieved by research meetings and workshops ranging from technical topics to specific applications. A web-based service and outreach presentations will ensure that advances in nanotechnology are promoted to a broad scientific community, commerce and via the media to lay interest groups.
