Summary on Grant Application Form |
The central objective of the proposed programme is to develop sound methods and software tools for spatial normalisation (registration) of ensembles of DT -MRls.Previous work has focussed on the adaptation of existing spatial normalisation techniques to work with this new data type. Several methods have been devised for applying spatial transformations to DT -MRIs, which is required for registration, but proper validation of these techniques is required.Experiments to validate these fundamental techniques will be performed over both synthetic and real DT -MRI data within the proposed programme. Once validated, software tools will be built, which make these methods (for which there is already considerable demand) generally available.DT -MRI data contains a large amount of information, which is complementary to that contained in standard MR measurements (T1-, T2-weightings, etc). The proposed research will investigate how best to exploit this rich source of information, possibly in conjunction with standard MR data, in order to improve the quality of matches that can be obtained between images, in particular, of images of different human subjects brains.
