Summary on Grant Application Form |
Quasi-optical systems have been used extensively in past and present generation radiometers where a conservative reflector sizing policy has always been adopted in the design. This had always been necessary due to the lack of a suitable electromagnetic verification method. With increasing use of quasi-optical systems in radiometers and plasma diagnostics and their potential application to the fields of telecommunications (short pulse communication systems) and automotive applications, there is a need to design smaller systems making the need for an accurate verification method vital. It is proposed to employ a novel diffrected Gaussian Beam formulation to provide a suitable verification technique. This is intended to be a modular approach that will allow a number of quasi-optical components to be cascaded together to enable an entire systems to be analysed. This will require the development of suitable electromagnetic interfacing between the analyses of the different components to produce a coherent analysis method.
