Summary on Grant Application Form
1. The project will use an integrated approach to identify and address through scientific research the specific needs of the leather industry. This will be achieved through the development of a supply chain network that will combine its market knowledge on consumer needs and trends to develop a database of information. This information will be disseminated to the partners as well as feeding into the scientific research. Part of the project will benchmark currently available leather by comparing the actual performance against consumer expectations. Scientific research will begin from day one by researching novel finishing techniques such as powder coating, mineralisation of the grain layer, the application of inorganic/organic hybrids in the quest for an aniline looking leather with a finished leather performance. As the market information becomes available the project will focus the scientific resources on the issues identified by in the data collected through the leather web consortium.
