Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal aims to provide a 'hands on' practical course for Ph.D. students and Post-Docs in the effective and efficient use of the ISIS time-of-flight neutron scattering instruments. We aim to provide three courses over 3 years. Each course will last for 10 days, will cater for 30 participants and will cover the full range of experimental techniques that are done at ISIS.The course has a modular design containing core course units that provide a grounding in the neutron scattering technique and a variety of experimental course units allowing the students to study a wide variety of topics; from diffraction from pharmaceutical molecules and small-angle scattering from biomolecular to magnetic excitations in single crystals and neutron reflectometry. This modular design gives the student the freedom either study the full range of topics or to adopt a more specialised program that is of particular relevance to their particular research project.~ The student will be using state-of -the-art instruments to study contemporary problems, providing them will a solid foundation for their future scientific studies using the neutron scattering technique
