Summary on Grant Application Form
This project addresses the lack of evidence to indicate which dressings or topical agents are most effective in the management of chronic wounds. The current end point of 'time to healing' in the evaluation of wound dressings (non-pharmaceutical grade) does not provide specific measures of effectiveness or information to guide industrial innovation in the development of patient-focused products. This study is about the development of methodologies to identify and evaluate patient needs with respect to wound dressings. It can foster collaboration, in the K and internationally, by standardising these methodologies, which are focused on the accurate capture, storage and exchange of information between patients, clinicians, industry and healthcare providers. It is envisaged that that a methodology for a rolling programme of dressings evaluation will be developed which will create opportunities in the future for the rapid uptake of new technologies that are evidently superior to the standard products, for the benefit of patients, clinicians, industry and healthcare providers
