Summary on Grant Application Form
The field of Marklov chains comprises a well-developed body of mathematical theory with a long history of diverse applications. Nonetheless the subject is currently undergoing rapid development, driven by both important new theoretical advances, and a plethora on new application areas. The aim of this Durham Symposium is to bring together theoreticians and practitioners who are involved in this explosive growth of the broad field of Markov chains and thereby facilitae knowledge transfer and provide the seeds for new knowledge creation. The excitement which we believe this area generates stems both from the important applications, and from the possibility of stimulating further advances in fundamental theoretical questions such as the relation between coupling methods and Frobenius-Perron theory.
