Summary on Grant Application Form |
In the first stage of this joint research programme, high resolution measurements on the 2p shell of Mg+ and the 2s shell of C+ will be carried out. In the case of Mg+, the aim is to provide quantitative information on the role of configuration interaction in populating two-electron excitations in the phtoton energy range between 40 and 80 eV. In the case of C+, structure in the region above 29eV photon energy will be investigated using the high resolution of the ALS beamline to determine the effects of strong perturbations in this region. In the second stage of the proposed investigations, measurements in the same spectral region will be made on the Na iso-electronic sequence, to compare spectral behaviour along the sequence as well as provide the first absolute cross section measurements on multiply (>2+) charged ions.
