Summary on Grant Application Form |
To encourage collboration and to stimulate interdisciplinary research activity in the area of in-situ micron and sub-micron chemical analysis of particles and the interface in their equilibrium with a natural environment. This will be the driving force behind the network rather than the exploitation of any single technique Sample presentation is seen as major topic. Tasks of major importance in the area of Health & Life Sciences (e.g. Environment, Pharmaceuticals), will be identified and the means of studying them will be explored. The methods required will necessarily be interdisiciplinary and the network will bring together people with a range of expertise (engineers, instrumentalists, analytical scientists and practising health, life and environmental scientists), whom wou;d not normally have the opportunity to meet professionally. Raman spectroscopy is highlighted as an important technique. The applicaiton of analytical science to the characterisation of particles in-situ distinguishes this proposed EPSRC Network from other previously funded networks. Other related networks and organisations will be invited to participate in the initiative.
