Over the red three years, the strategy of CCP5 is to support particle-based simulation on length-scales from Angstroms to millimetres and timescales from picoseconds to hours. At the low end of the scales we will make contact with quantum calculations (CCP9); at the high end with engineering (CCP12). CCP5 will support the emerging mesoscale community by developing a code built around the techniques of Dissipative Particle Dynamics, Smooth Particle Dynamics and Lattice Boltzmann methods. The structure of the code will permit new algorithms to be integrated as required. A test-bed project on the flow of polymers and colloids in narrow channels will demonstrate the power of the new methods. Workshops and seminars will be orgariised to explore applications of these methods and develop new algorithms in the field.CCP5 will continue to support aRomistic simulation through a programme of annual meetings, regional meetings, workshops, collaborations and a visitor scheme. There will be a particular emphasis on training the next generation of simulators and encouraging young researchers in the area. This will be done through an annual School for Molecular Simulation, regional meetings (with a deliberately informal style and an emphasis on student presentations) and seedcom funding for starting new projects and initiatives in the community.
