The Centre will provide the focus for metallurgical research across aerospace and related technologies, covering alloy and process development; cost-reduction; life cycle analysis and environmental degradation. The science and technology underpinning these themes will target materials processing; materials characterisation; new materials developments; structural integrity and materials modelling. There is an acknowledged industrial need to provide a supply of elite professional research engineers with metallurgical expertise.
