Summary on Grant Application Form |
Following the demonstration of Petawatt output from Vulcan glass laser at the end of the upgrade grant GR/M48383, a period of commissioning will be required in order to deliver a focused beam to target and to characterise the focal spot prior to ticketed user experiments. It will also be necessary to undertake a radiological survey of the target area and user control room during laser / target interaction shots to verify that the radiological hazard is in line with the predictions and calculations based on current experimental and theoretical dataThe proposed six week experiment will be based on measurements of gamma and X-ray flux, neutron yield, Time-of-Flight, activation products, noise and debris production.
