Summary on Grant Application Form
A two-day workshop (Autumn Retreat) will be held at Hulme Hall, University of Manchester on the 5th and 6th of September 2002. The Autumn Retreat will be focussed on the topic Theoretical and Experimental Techniques for the Investigation of Nuclei far from Stability . Money is requested to cover the costs of meals and accomodation for up to 50 research students, to hire the lecture theatre and projection equipment and to invite 6 overseas speakers to the meeting. Eight UK speakers have agreed to contribute to the meeting at no cost to this grant. There will be an emphasis on recent research presented a level appropriate for PhD students with the aim that this meeting bridges the gap between the Nuclear Physics Summer School and a full conference. At the same time, the presented material will act as a stimulus for discussion between leading researchers. This meeting will be the first in a continuing series of Autumn Retreats, to be held every two years and alternating with the Summer School.
