Summary on Grant Application Form |
The goal of this mobility proposal is to transfer Dr. Enhong Cao, who has developed expertise in microreaction technology in a previous EPSRC project carried out in the Department of Chemical Engineering, to the Department of Chemistry. In particular, microreactors will be designed and fabricated to facilitate organic synthesis reactions. Chemists can therefore use microreactors as lab tools to optimise synthesis reactions. The advantages of microengineered reactors that are pertinent to this proposal are better control of reactant mixing, employing small reaction mixture volumes, handling highly exothermic reactions, and operating under conditions inaccessible by conventional systems.
