|
A group of EU scientists, headed by myself, has proposed a Network of Excellence to the EU Commission, called DYFFUSE, in resonse to the Framework programme. The Network address scientific issues listed under theme 1.2.3, Components and Microsystems. The Network aims to use our expertise defectlimpurity dynamics in silicon and silicon-based semiconductors to help facilitate the European effort to enhance CMOS device functionality, to prc defect engineering solutions to problems arising as a result of integrated circuit scaling, to provide input into front-end process models and simulators regarding detailed defect behaviour as a function of process parameters, to reduce European fragmentation and duplication of effort in this area and to enhance the training and mobility of researchers, and provide access to training on high value equipment. Between the publication of the Expression of Interests and the Deadline for Proposals, which will probably be in March 2003, I will need to travel to meet partners, and also to discuss the final groupi partners with other Network co-ordinators.
