Summary on Grant Application Form |
Silicon carbide (SiC) electronic systems will perform an enabling function in the energy and transport technologies of the 21 st century. Their inherent ability to operate at high temperatures will facilitate technological advances in the more electric aircraft and other transport sectors whilst grid-corn power electronic systems will benefit from improved efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint. With an internationally competitive research portfolio and high levels of commitment across the supply chain, the UK is in an excellent position to capitalise on emerging markets in SiC electn As a successor to the SCEPTRE programme, ASCENT will spearhead the continued UK effort, firstly by focussing effort to bring SiC electronics technology to the market place and secondly by maintaining a UK presence at the forefront of SiC electronics research world-wide. ASCENT will provide support for pre-production SiC devices and packaging whilst maintaining a core of fundamental research into SiC device technology.
