Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research to be pursued with staff at NASA Ames Research Center, Automated Software Engineering group, is based on the further development of our existing environment synthesis work for untimed systems. Given a component specification (represented as an finite state automaton) and a desired property, we can synthesis the most general constraints on the environment of the component that will then enable achievement of the given property. Our short programme aims to extend the approach to support the compositional modelling and verification of timed and hybrid systems as expected and needed to support and be deployed in future Mars missions involving autonomous long-range roving vehicles. Two aspects will be investigated: firstly the development of environment synthesis techniques for real-time systems based upon event-clock automata, looking in particular at the practicality of synthesis of aspects of real-time controllers; secondly to give initial consideration to the feasibility of such synthesis techniques to more general hybrid control systems.
