Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Computational Biology laboratory has developed biophysically and anatomically detailed models of cardiac tissue: these cardiac virtual tissues are high order, stiff, nonlinear partial differential equations that are solved in a complicated, anisotropic, moving geometry, and are solved on HPC: a grid, and an SMP machine in our laboratory. Our local resources are adequate for model development and validation - applications demand more resource, so we are requesting time on CSAR and HPC(X), tom port, optimise and apply our codes. Current computational projects are on the initiation and stability of reentry in the ventricle (ventricular fibrillation), meander and drift and reentrant waves, atrial arryhthmias and re-modelling, and visualisation of cardiac electro-mechanics. We also plan to link our electrophysiology to cardiac mechanics, by adapting finite element code developed at UCSD; the ultimate aim is to link computational cardiac electromechanics to CFD in the coronary arteries and cardiac chambers.
