Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to develop CVD routes to tungsten oxideand doped tungsten oxide thin films. These films will be fully evaluated to assess their potential as self cleaning! photoactive coatings and as gas sensor materials. The work will involve the synthesis of new bimetallic single source precursors and utilisation of a class of materials known as polyoxometallates for the first time by CVD methods. Functional analysis of the material will be by gas sensor measurements, by noting changes in resistance with gaseous atmosphere, as well as self cleaning potential by analysis of photoactivity and contact angle measurements. Correlations will be drawn between the microstructure and dopant levels to maximise the functional response. The proposal incorporates elements of synthesis, materials characterisation, functional analysis and material processing (device fabrication) and is aimed towards devloping new sensor materials and photoactive coatings.
