Summary on Grant Application Form |
This grant will allow the initial investment in expanding pavement research and introducing significant rail research to be continued with the larger academic staff complement and improved laboratory facilites that have been provided at Nottingham over the past three years. While continuing to focus on high quality experimental research, new areas are be explored, including improved constitutive modelling, combining chemical with mechanical understanding of materials and applying improved predictive methods to Pavement Management Systems for the benefit of the road and rail industries. Research planning and strategy will be developed under five themes, Rail Track, Bitumen and Asphalt, Concrete and Hydraulic Bound Materials, Foundations and Pavement Performance & Management. The international links which have been formed over the past three years will be exploited and other promising collaborations pursued.
