Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research outlined provides samples of the high quality work currently being undertaken at Bath. The requested funding for a 400MHz NMR Spectrometer will be used by synthetic chemists across the Inorganic and Organic chemistry research base. The funding of this instrument will allow both routine and specialised hands-on NMR experiments to be undertaken and will provide the cornerstone to our research efforts across a range of activities.Specific projects that will benefit directly include the development of new methodologies (temporary catalytic modification reactions, biocatalysis, oligosaccharide synthesis, peptide modification), organometallic chemistry (Ru-NHC complexes, weakly co-ordinating carborane anions, novel phosphines, Cr-catalysed trimerisation), catalysis (Wittig reaction on alcohols, desymmetrisation, hydroacylation, Lewis acid catalysis, polymerisation) and materials/supramolecular/sensor chemistry (CVD, boronic acid sensors for carbohydrates, molecular recognition, fluorescent sensors, nanoparticles, crystal engineering).
