Summary on Grant Application Form |
The elaboration of the reaction chemistry of diaqua lanthanide complexes in aqueous media, in which inter or intramolecular binding of selected anions is examined as a function of anion concentration/pH. Control over binding affinity is achieved by tailoring complex structure and by permutation of the Ln ion itself. The function of these complexes include an optical pH probe suitable for minituarisation using pH or pZn switched sulfonamide ligation, a sensitive MRI method for measuring pZn in the nanomolar range and an exploration of the reactivity of chelated alpha-ketoacids (pyruvate, oxaloacetate, 2-oxyglutarate), or keto-amides with a view to enantioselective catalysis of reduction or reductive amination.
