Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is proposed to define structural and dynamic aspects of the primary and secondary hydration spheres in selected systems, using a multidisciplina approach involving both the solid-state analysis of well-defined lanthanide complexes and an examination of their solution state exchange dynamic: Water structure is determined by the nature of local ions and their ability to make or break hydrogen bonds. These effects also are manifested in w exchange dynamics. Using paramagnetic lanthanide complexes as probes, it is intended to study inter-related aspects: how water structure is sen to pressure variation; how variation of the nature of the local ionic environment-varying anions/cations systematically-affects hydration structure an dynamics. Innovative aspects include the application of direct powder X-ray methods to monitor changes in the solid-state induced by changing pressure and/or temperature.
