Summary on Grant Application Form
Future generations of wireless communication networks will aim to deliver high quality services, such as real-time video, together with conventional services, including data and voice, anywhere and at anytime. Transmission over wireless channels is however a challenging problem, due for example, to the motion of mobile users. On the other hand, the transmission power is limited for the mobile users, and the data rate varies for different applications.Optimal dynamic allocation of resources such as transmit power, bandwidths, and data rate is a significant means to deal with the time-varying nature of wireless channels, and to maximise the number of users which can operate concurrently. This research proposal, therefore, aims to design novel strategies for power and rate allocation for future wireless communication networks with interference cancellation in the receiver. This research will also aim to develop new realizable strategies to be applied by the wireless network management mechanism to control admission of new users to the system by allocating/disallocating resources to them. The research is planned to be mainly undertaken within the Centre for Digital Signal Processing Research, at King's College London, by invoking the resources of the College along with those that have been requested for as part of this proposal. These resources include the King's College Library, the IEE and IEEE Electronic Journals to which King's College is subscribed, and a powerful PC for conducting the simulations.Evaluation of the outcomes of the research will be performed through analysis and simulation on PC within the College, and through measurements in the premises of our industrial partner, Anritsu, thereby exploiting their measurement tools.
