Summary on Grant Application Form
This 12 month research project concerns the processing of a small volume of powdered raw materials in the direct laser remelting apparatus (DLRM) in order to identify process conditions for the production of Ti surface structures on CoCr alloy substrates. Further studies will explore the possibilities of producing bone-interlock surface structures on CoCr and Ti alloy substrates using Ta, Ti alloy and Nb powders. The bio-compatible nature of the material formed as a result of laser melting of powdered beds will be investigated by the collaborating organisation, Stryker-Howmedica Ltd
