Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is part of a LINK-Photonics programme involving Nortel Ltd., Diomed Ltd. and the Univ. of Manchester and Cardiff. Three types of medical laser in the 1 to 2um region are to be developed based on laser diodes, diode pumped fibres and diode pumped crystals. The Manchester group will:a) design, develop and evaluate prototype diode excited fibre and crystal lasers in the region of 2um, b) determine the effectiveness of the in-vitro and in-vivo interaction with a range of soft and hard bodily tissues using techniques of optical and electron microscopy, histology, thermal photography and flash photography and c) develop laser diode coupling and pumping methods for efficient excitation.
