Summary on Grant Application Form
This research aims to provide robust multi-way speech for use over heterogeneous multi-service packet networks, such as SuperJANET. The audio tool will operate in a general purpose multi-tasking environment with other multimedia components, and will use the multicast facilities to provide multi-way communication. The research will develop a multi-way prototype audio tool, and in addition, the following: a) Scalable congestion controlled redundancy technique for voice reconstruction during packet loss; b) Synchronisation with other multi-media tools and cooperation between multimedia components; c) Adaptive speech coding algorithms that use the congestion control, and system integration facilities to optimise performance. The benefits of this work will initially be a robust audio tool that is in the research of most of the UK academics (and those from outside the UK) for cooperation in research and teaching. The main benefit of this research is however an audio tool that his easy to integrate into new multimedia applications.
