Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research aims to establish relationships between local structure and local density of states functions of complex oxide surfaces as a function of redox cycling in UHV (designed to simulate the catalytic cycle in oxidation catalysis). This will be achieved by cross correlation of local structural and spectroscopic information obtained from combined UHV STM/AFM with valence state information from XPS and structural information from LEED. Central to this work is the development of STM as a local spectroscopic probe for these surfaces, and exploration of the potential of AFM in studies of these materials.
