Summary on Grant Application Form |
We are proposing a Centre which will research and disseminate ways of producing built environments using virtual reality techniques. This will enable those too locate design, construct , and deliver and manage such facilities to explore ways in which the highest quality environments can be produces.A major problem of the professions and industries involved concern fragmentation. Virtual reality techniques suggest ways of integrating these activities so that many problems of production are resolved. In an era which there is dramatic growth in construction of new urban developments overseas as well as urgent renewal of our own built environments in prospect, it is necessary to stimulate the UK industry to compete with the world's best for a share of a rapidly expanding market. We will develop a series of demonstrator projects, a training and advisory program built around a unique partnership of data, computer software and hardware vendors, the construction industry, architect and engineering consulting firms, and client industries with a focus on tow of the major growth areas - transport and retailing.
